Random thoughts from a webinar and you learn something new every day
Good morning, if you are reading this that means you have had an opportunity to check out our redesigned site. InterDyn-LANAC is very excited about our new site! We feel that it has a fresh new look and the new content management system allows us to make sure that all information is kept current. It also allows us to have interactive and collaborative features like this blog. If you have any questions/comments/suggestions for us feel free to contact either myself (rmsblog@lanactech.com) or info@lanactech.com to reach our Marketing Department. You can also contact me by clicking on my name link after each blog entry.Â
I want to again thank everybody that attended our RMS webinar yesterday. It was a demonstration focusing on the personalizations and customizations that we have done in RMS implementations that enhance RMS and make it the perfect choice for Goodwills. Some of the highlights of the demo:
- Item Entry with Graphics. This is a touchscreen that uses graphical buttons for items selection. It also supports all of the layers of item organizations. You can use it to select-Department, Category, and finally Item. If the item selected is a matrix, you can also prompt for matrix options to select the correct item.Â
- Line Item Edit Window. This will display a line item entry in RMS in a large, easy to read window that provides touchscreen-friendly controls to add a comment, increase or decrease quantity, and even override the price if the cashier has the authority.Â
- Production Entry. This is a utility that can be run from any computer at the store. At the end of the night, the manager can use the utility to enter information from the day’s production-bank deposit, donation count, donor count, wares production, textile production, items pulled, and any notes from the day.  All of this information is sent to Headquarters for reporting purposes.Â
We have a couple of more RMS tools that will be available soon that will be of interest to retailers from any industry. Next week I will be providing details and timetables of when they will be ready.Â
Finally, I thought it would be fun to add some regular features. So, after a service call with a customer this morning, I was inspired to start a new one-RMS Bug of the Week! This week’s bug was easy to fix, but I had never heard of before. We have a customer we started working with a couple of months ago and one of the first things I did to free up some screen real estate was to hide the “Sales Rep” column in RMS. They don’t use Sales Reps, so I thought it was a good idea. Fast forward to this morning, they tell me that they have noticed that ever since that first visit, they have been unable to use the “Tax” column to remove taxes from individual items on a transaction. I connected to their system remotely and, much to my surprise, you cannot check or uncheck the Tax column if the Sales Rep column is hidden. And this is with no security set on the Tax Column at all.  So, for now I have Sales Rep visible but read-only. And, that is this week’s RMS Bug of the Week.Â
Feel free to contribute any bugs you have experienced, maybe we can start compiling a list for Microsoft, or maybe we can work together to fix some of these bugs. Have a great day!
